If you are a homeowner in a home built before 1978 you too can have your home inspected to determine if there are any lead based paint hazards present. Lead-based paint was used in more than 38 million homes before it was banned from residential use in 1978. There is absolutely no reason that you and your family shouldn't be aware of any lead paint dangers in your place of residence. Also, homeowners residing in homes built before 1978 should be aware of the new Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) that requires contractors that disturb lead based paint be trained in lead-safe work practices.

More information about this rule can be found by visiting : http://www2.epa.gov/lead/renovation-repair-and-painting-program

If you are a homeowner performing renovation, repair or painting work in your own home the EPA's RRP rule does not cover your project. However, you have the ultimate responsibility for the safety of your family or children in your care. If you are living in a pre-1978 home and planning to do painting or repairs you should educate yourself by reading the following information: the EPA's Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers, and Schools (PDF).

Whether you have a contractor perform the work or you complete it yourself you can contact me to have the project cleared of lead based paint hazards.

Federal law requires a 10-day period before being obligated under contract so that a homebuyer can conduct an inspection for lead based paint in homes built before

1978. Parties may mutually agree, in writing, to lengthen or shorten the time

period for inspection or homebuyers may waive this inspection opportunity. Prospective homebuyers of homes built before 1978 can contact me for a lead inspection before moving in to ensure that your new home is free of any lead based paint hazards.

The ultimate goal is peace of mind in knowing that you and your family are protected from any exposure to lead paint dust if you live in a home built before 1978. People are surprised to find that peace of mind comes at such a low cost. Contact me with any questions or for details and I'll be glad to help you get started in protecting yourself and your family.
